Dear user of FREE Direct Download Capacity of OTR:
From time to time we establish new restriction rules for FREE Direct Download.
This is not to prevent you from free downloading, but to allow more download speed for the average user and to prevent abuse of the system.
Before we established the restrictions, we found the following abuse of the system:
- 35 GB/day for a single user.
- 25% of traffic for "The Simpsons".
- 1% of user generated 40% of traffic (heavy user group, discussion see forum).
During Rush hours (19 hours) we have the following restrictions for FREE DIRECT DOWNLOAD, which should be no restriction for 95% of users:
1. Maximum daily download of 2 GB/day (6 Movies/day)
2. Maximum weekly download of 4 GB/week (12 movies/week)
3. Maximum monthly download of 12 GB/month (36 movies/month)
*** 1 GB (1000 MB) is in average 3 movies of 60 minutes. ***
You can watch your usage with the "My account"-link on your MyRecordings-Site.
** before 1/2/06 the rushhour was between 17:00 and 25:00
** now the rushhour is between 06:00 and 25:00

Note: The limit does not stop allready started downloads. So if you have 1.9 GB today and start a 1.5 GB File, you also can receive 3.4 GB per day. Do not forget to click on banners. 1 click is enough to finance the traffic for 1 movie and we can increase total speed capacity next month.
Note: At the moment we count even downloads which are not completed. Sorry, this is under construction. As soon as we started download-server feedback, we can measure correct download-size. In the meantime, this is kind of unfair.
Note: Reset Time of "Week-Counter" is NOT Monday. It is the 1st, 8th, 15th. und 23rd of each month. Reset-Time of day-counter is as expected 00:00 (monthly counter with new month).
Note: We count your downloads only during "Rush-hour" and only for direct downloads from our servers. Rest of the day, no downloads are counted or limited. Payed Downloads, Tracker-Downloads (all free) or Mirror-Downloads (free) are never measured or limited.
Simpsons-Rule
Some Titels are disabled from direct downloading during "RUSH-HOUR"
At the moment: "The Simpsons" and "Voyager". If we encounter often traffic jams during Rush-Hours, new titles may follow.
Alternatives: You find this files on Trackers (torrents) , Emule and Mirrors (direct downloads) round the clock.
Note: OTR pushes via FTP those files to private Torrent-Trackers & mirrors. Those Trackers have dramatically more speed (500 KB/s), especially for those high traffic files.
Please visit the special DL-manager forum, to learn how to use an automatic download manager software. Those software can download tons of files during "Happy-Hour" when our servers have enough free capacity and higher speed.
New Rules (22nd October 2005)
Dear OTR-User,
during january 2006, we had too much traffic, busy servers, low download speed and long download durations.
Sorry for that. And thank you so much supporting OTR with your banner clicks.
Our solution for the problems:
1. We made a Queue-System.
2. Simpsons and Voyager is only avaliable via mirror
3. more mirrors and new system to coordinate mirrors
4. Rushhour between 6 and 25:00
5. Payment (20ct) possible round the clock for better priority in queue
